Answering your Questions

Isn’t it amazing how flashes of insight can lead to fantastic discoveries, without any activity from the mind at all? All of this occurs, because knowledge, real knowledge, does not come from the mind. All the mind can do is recycle and rearrange bits of information, but the knowledge comes from somewhere else. It can come from books, people, or other resources. Knowledge from external sources is imperfect. To really know something, we have to have the direct experience of it. How is this done?

By quieting the mind, turning our attention away from externals, and remaining aware of the essence of our being, we can know anything that is knowable. One excellent way to experience this is through meditation.

What do you do? When meditating, practice your technique until you are calm, serene and attentive. (If you are sleepy or prone to day dreaming, it would be best to wait until you can master your attention.) Then sit in the silence and ask the question. You don’t have to constantly re-ask the question, you just need to sit quietly and wait for the answer. If your mind starts postulating answers, disregard those answers. Wait for a flash of insight that seems to vividly come out of nowhere. You will find your answer there. You may have to repeat this practice until you fully understand the answer. You may only get bits and pieces during each meditation. If you stay the course until you know beyond a shadow of a doubt, you will know what you need to know.

I use this often for my own personal growth and questions about life. I also use it when I have a question about an individual that I am working with in a healing or astrological setting. Once you are clear, you can gain useful information for the benefit of others too. (Of course, you don't need to meddle in the affairs of others. Only do this if they ask for your help or advice.)

Be patient and persistent, while surrendering to the process. Many of the worlds greatest spiritual, business oriented, and scientific discoveries have come about through this process. If it can serve on such a grand level, it can also help you with the smaller issues of life such as discovering how to improve your health, relationships, or moods. See below for an excellent meditation technique to get you started.

Meditation Technique

Sitting up straight and comfortable, bring your awareness to your breathing. Take a deep breath and exhale, letting your body relax while keeping your head and neck erect. Then let the breath flow in and out naturally. Do not force the breathing. Simply observe it.

Once settled and focused on the breath, introduce the mantra “so hum”. Mentally chant the mantra. Hear the sound “so” resonating within your field of awareness on the inhale. Mentally listen to the sound “hum” resonating within your field of awareness on the exhale. To fully engage your attention in this process, imagine each syllable vibrating within your being.

Let your awareness be drawn further inward on each inhalation and exhalation. In time, your thoughts and emotions will settle and you will experience an inner peace. When this occurs, drop the mantra and ignore the breathing.

Simply sit, in the peace generated from the practice. If thoughts, memories, or emotions rise up again before your set time to conclude, repeat the technique to reestablish your inner poise.
