Healing and Your Purpose in Life
56Healing and the Bigger Picture
Healing- The Bigger Picture
Being mentally stable, emotionally balanced, and physically strong can make all the difference in experiencing a happy and fulfilling existence. If we are tortured by our minds, many of our best efforts will be sabotaged. When our emotional nature can be disturbed by the slightest unpleasant experience it is easy to feel overwhelmed. A weak body can make one susceptible to a host of problems, from a compromised immune system to being unable to enjoy the great outdoors because of poor stamina or allergic reactions. It is easy to say we want to be happy and healthy, but often that is not our experience. One of the main factors contributing to the discrepancy between our wish for a healthful life and the reality we experience arises from our lack of appreciation for the bigger picture.
What is the ultimate reason you want to be healthy? Do you want to be able to joyfully do work that provides for your family and your security? Do you want to be able share your talents and gifts with the world? Do you want to help others to a better future? This is the bigger picture. If you only say you want to be happy and healthy while lacking a real reason empowering your actions and intentions you may find your attempts may be weak and misguided.
Keep in mind that your reasons to achieve a happy and healthy existence need to be your own. They are not the reasons that someone else has ingrained in your mind. Just because someone told you to do such and such because it would “good for you” does not make it so. The desire to achieve needs to come from within. It needs to be in line with your unique desires and interests. Otherwise, what is the point? The world is a very big place, and there is room for everyone to express their divinely guided purpose. We need stone masons as much as we need musicians, doctors, teachers, writers, dancers, gardeners, scientists, comic book illustrators, etc.
If you are serious about healing your life, and you are already engaged in activities such as getting enough sleep, eating a nutritious diet, regular exercise, stress management techniques, and surrounding your self with helpful, positive and supportive people, but are not yet getting the results you would like, consider your life’s purpose and how you fit into the bigger picture. This may well provide the missing piece to your healing puzzle.
